Inspired by the majesty of the living sea and the beauty of St. Croix, artist Jamila Hammad creates multi-dimensional art using textiles and mixed media. "Living here on St. Croix," says Ms. Hammad, "I am ensconced by the turquoise Caribbean waters. In such beautiful surroundings, creating art for me has become a meditation on the Spirit of the Sea."
Ms. Hammad creates hanging art quilts and also mixed media works on canvas or on wood panels. Ms. Hammad says, "I use a combination of fabrics, paints, yarns, beads, sequins, and any interesting material that wants to contribute; my work celebrates the Spirit of the Sea, sometimes whimsical, sometimes mysterious and always expansive." www.CalypsoArtQuilts.com
